Having so many options around other than the traditional wired phone, communication is getting cheaper every passing day. Gone are the days when people had only two options, wired phone or a rented phone from Ma Bell, to telecommunicate with others. Now people have additional choices in telecommunications as they can call wirelessly, over cable network or DSL broadband lines.
The costs of making calls are plunging sharply. Recently Cablevision, a new participant in the telephone business, offered international calls to any country across the globe at a price of just four cents a minute. Skype, on the other hand, which enables consumers to make calls on Internet announced that calls to standard phones to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada would be free.
BusinessWeek has suggested seven ways to telecommunicate:
1. Bargain-Basement Internet Phone Calls.
2. Wi-Fi Phones.
3. Instant-Messenger Click-to-Call.
4. “Premium” VOIP.
5. PhoneGnome.
6. Pay-as-You-Go Mobile Phones.
7. Internet Phone Cards.
